It is called Ramslök in Swedish but has many different names. Its Latin name is Allium ursinum but is perhaps better known as wild garlic, ramsons, or wood garlic. It is a relatively rare plant that is often found on foliage and in groves. Here in Sweden, it has about the same extent as the oak north.

Borstbäcken

The first time I visited this place earlier this spring, it was not blooming, but what I noticed was an overpowering onion smell. It smelled like garlic. Otherwise, it may be easy to mistake the leaves to be Lily of the Valley.

I didn't think much more about this site until I saw a video of a Danish photographer I follow on YouTube. He published a clip in which he is out in a forest photographing a sea of white flowers. He calls them white garlic, but I recognized the leaves and realized that I had to go back to Borstbäckens Nature Reserve.

Next to the creek that winds up through the ravine stood ramsons in full bloom. In some places, a sea of white flowers and in others like white oases around a tree. For those who have the opportunity, it is worth visiting and bringing home some for the evening barbecue.
